This Week - Creighton will play two nonconference matches in Arizona this weekend before the start of conference play next week. The Bluejays will face the University of Arizona on Friday at 9 p.m. Central time and Arizona State on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Last Week - Creighton split two matches at home during Alumni Weekend, falling 1-0 to Iowa on Friday before rebounding for a 2-0 win over Weber State on Sunday. Despite a school-record 1,547 fans in attendance on Friday, the Bluejays were unable to find the scoring column despite out-shooting Iowa in the loss. Freshman Emily Orbell scored her third goal of the season and first career game winner in the victory over Weber State. With the assist on Orbell's goal, Marcy Gans broke the Morrison Stadium career points record with her 23rd career point at home.

Scouting Creighton (5-3-0) - The Bluejays continue to lead the Missouri Valley Conference with 124 shots, which is 43 more than their opponents this season. Junior forward Marcy Gans leads the Missouri Valley Conference with 40 shots and three game-winning goals, is tied for second with 10 points and four goals, and is tied for third with two assists. Gans tops the team in every offensive statistical category. Midfielder Emily Orbell has proven to be a legitimate offensive threat and one of the best newcomers in the Valley with three goals early in her freshman campaign. Defensively, goalkeeper Kristen Casey leads the MVC with three shutouts and is second with a 1.00 goals-against average.

Scouting Arizona (4-4-0) - The Wildcats come into the match against Creighton on a three-game losing streak. Arizona dropped a hard-fought match to No. 1 Santa Clara, 1-0, in double overtime at home last Sunday. Arizona's other losses have come against fifth-ranked Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Utah. The Wildcats do have a marquee win over No. 6 Texas, the Longhorns' only loss this season, to go with victories over Cal Poly, Nevada, and New Mexico.
?Freshman Jasmin Day leads Arizona with three goals this season, and seven other Wildcats have scored goals. Freshman Danielle Nicolai has started seven matches in goal for the Wildcats, recording 32 saves and one shutout.

Scouting Arizona State (4-4-0) - The Sun Devils will be playing their third match in six days when they face the Bluejays on Sunday. Arizona State hosts San Diego State on Friday night after losing 1-0 at New Mexico on Tuesday night. Last Friday, the Sun Devils also lost to top-ranked Santa Clara by a 1-0 score. The Sun Devils have also lost to No. 6 Texas this season.
?Freshman Karin Volpe and sophomore Carly Kallas lead Arizona State with two goals apiece. The Sun Devils have out-shot their opponents by a decisive 115-53 count, but have scored only nine goals. Defensively, Arizona State has allowed only six goals in eight matches. Goalkeeper Briana Silvestri has recorded shutouts in three of the four Sun Devil victories.


Series History - Creighton is a combined 0-3 against Arizona and Arizona State in the program's 19-year history. The Bluejays made a weekend trip to play both Arizona and Arizona State in 1997 and lost to Arizona at home in 1995. The dates and past results:

Bluejay Boss - Head coach Bruce Erickson is in his ninth season as the Creighton women's soccer coach and has an 86-71-16 (.543) record with the Jays. Erickson is the winningest coach in school history and was the 2002 Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year. He has guided Creighton to MVC Tournament championships in 2002, 2004, and 2005 and three NCAA Tournament appearances in the same years. In 2002, the Jays won both the regular season and tournament championships. Creighton has qualified for the MVC Tournament in eight straight seasons, and has reached the championship match in four of the past five years. Erickson has a 29-16-6 record in conference matches at Creighton.

MVC Leaders - As a team, Creighton leads the Missouri Valley Conference in shots (124) and shutouts (3), and is second in goals-against average (1.00). Individually, junior Marcy Gans leads the league with 40 shots and three game-winning goals, is tied for second with 10 points and four goals, and is tied for third with two assists. Seniors Sam Russell and Katy Peetz and juniors Nicole DeLue and Lindsay Vaught also each have two assists to tie for third in the MVC. Goalkeeper Kristen Casey leads the Valley with three shutouts and is second with a 1.00 goals-against average.

Record-Breaking Assist - With the assist on Emily Orbell's game-winning goal in Creighton's 2-0 win over Weber State on Sunday, Marcy Gans scored her 23rd career point at home to set the Morrison Stadium career points record. Gans surpassed the previous total of 22 set by Kristine Willrett. Gans now has 10 assists in her career at Creighton.

Century Mark - Junior goalkeeper Kristen Casey surpassed 100 saves for her career with seven saves in the Jays' two weekend matches. With her ninth career shutout against Weber State on Sunday, Casey is now one away from entering the top-five in career shutouts at Creighton.

Two-Goal Advantage - Creighton's 3-2 loss to North Dakota State on Sept. 14 marked only the ninth time in school history the Jays have lost when scoring at least two goals in a match. With its 2-0 win over Weber State on Sunday, Creighton is now 160-9-7 all-time when reaching the two-goal mark in a match.

Record Watch - Senior Sam Russell remains two assists away from cracking the top-five in career assists at Creighton, and she is also two home assists shy of tying the Morrison Stadium career mark. Goalkeeper Kristen Casey is now one shutout, two victories, and four saves shy of tying the Morrison Stadium career records in each category. Casey is also one shutout away from a tie for fifth on the all-time career shutouts list.

Marcy's Playground - Junior forward Marcy Gans is the team's most potent offensive threat, and leads all current players with 14 career goals and 38 career points. She leads the team this season with four goals, 10 points, 40 shots, and 14 shots on goal. Gans has scored the game-winning goal in three of Creighton's five wins. She holds Morrison Stadium career records for goals (8), points (23), shots (83), and shots on goal (38). Gans is a two-time MVC All-Tournament team pick and was the tourney's MVP as a freshman. She has also been named an all-MVC honorable mention twice in her career.

More on Marcy - Creighton is 5-0-0 when Gans scores a point this season and 0-3-0 when she does not. She registered more game-winning goals (3) in the first six matches of the 2007 season than she had in her first two seasons combined (2). The 10 points Gans has scored in the first eight matches this season already matches Toch Ihemelu� team-leading point total from last season. The number of goals, points, shots, and shots on goal Gans has compiled this season account for 25 percent or more of the team total in each category.

Reliable Russell - Senior defender/midfielder Sam Russell has become a rare four-year starter for the Bluejays this fall. The Stilwell, Kan., native has made 64 career starts, more than any other player on the Creighton roster. Russell is currently tied for the team lead with two assists, and also has the game-winning goal in the Jays' 3-0 win over South Dakota on Sept. 11. Her 16 career assists are two shy of fifth place on the school's career charts. Twelve of Russell's 16 assists have come at Morrison Stadium, which is two away from the stadium's career mark of 14 set by Kristine Willrett.

All Over the Field - Junior Nicole DeLue has been the definition of versatility. The Littleton, Colo., native is listed at all three positions on the roster and has played all three this season. DeLue has three career goals and four career assists on the offensive end, while also helping anchor the Jays' backline. She picked up the game-winning assist on Marcy Gans' goal in the Jays' 2-1 win over Northern Colorado in the season opener and added another in a win over South Dakota on Sept. 11. Her two assists are tied for the team lead.

Neighbors to the North - Minnesota natives Emily Orbell (White Bear Lake) and Brittni Deeb (Lake Elmo) have played a big role early in their freshmen seasons. Orbell, who has started all eight matches, is second on the team with three goals. She scored a goal in her first collegiate match against Northern Colorado in the season opener and tallied the game-winning goal in Sunday's win over Weber State. Deeb has started on the backline in six of Creighton's early-season contests, as the Jays have held opponents to eight goals in eight matches. Senior Tristan Moser-Bleil (Minneapolis) gives Creighton three contributors from the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Moser-Bleil has been a regular in the lineup since arriving as a freshman and has played in more matches (69) than any other player on the Jays' roster. Head coach Bruce Erickson (Brooklyn Park) also originally hails from the state.

Seniority Rules - The 2007 Creighton squad features six seniors, all of whom have contributed significantly already this season. The six seniors have played in a combined 356 matches and accumulated 206 starts throughout their careers. Tristan Moser-Bleil, Ally Peetz, Katy Peetz, and Sam Russell each have started at least 30 matches at Creighton. Toch Ihemelu led the Jays in scoring last season with five goals and 10 points. Heather Duncan has made 20 career starts, including all eight matches this season, and was an All-MVC honorable mention last season. Ihemelu and Russell each have a goal in 2007, while Russell and Katy Peetz both have two assists to tie for the team lead.

The Newcomers - The Jays have five newcomers in 2007: D Brittni Deeb, M/F Grace Kwon, M Emily Orbell, M/F Claire Zach, and M Mary Zapapas. Zapapas is a sophomore transfer from Middle Tennessee, where she was named the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year after scoring 11 goals and assisting on four last year. The 2007 recruiting class was ranked second in the MVC by Soccer Buzz Magazine. So far this season, the newcomers have combined to play in 18 matches, including 13 starts. Orbell has started all eight matches and has three goals, Deeb has made six starts, Zapapas three starts, and Kwon two.

Lineup Flexibility - Exactly half of the players on the Creighton roster are listed at multiple positions, giving head coach Bruce Erickson the ability to mix and match lineups for various situations. This strategy also is critical for developing team depth at each position.

Seeing Double - Senior twins Ally and Katy Peetz will look to finish their Creighton careers with a bang. The pair has combined to start 71 matches in their careers and appeared in a total of 121. Younger sister, Anne Peetz, is a sophomore on the team and has appeared in 17 matches in her career. Anne also has a twin, Carly, who plays soccer at the University of Nebraska. Katy and Anne both had assists in the Jays' win over South Dakota on Sept. 11.

International Experience - Three members of the women's soccer program have or will represent their countries on the field. Sophomore Eden Hingwing played with the Canadian National Team last fall at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Championships in Russia. First-year assistant coach Ileana Moschos was a goalkeeper for the Greek Women's National Team from 2002-04 and participated in the 2004 Olympics in Athens. Volunteer assistant coach and former CU player Ivonne Valentin will begin training with the Puerto Rican National Team early this fall.

Up Next - Creighton will open conference play at home against Missouri State on Friday, Oct. 5, at 5 p.m. The match will be the first half of a doubleheader with the men's team at Morrison Stadium that night.

The photograph entitled "Klara and Edda belly-dancing" (1998) is one of 149 images comprising the "Thanksgiving" installation by renowned US photographer Nan Goldin.

The photograph exists as part of the installation as a whole and has been widely published and exhibited throughout the world. It can be found in the monograph of Ms Goldin's works entitled "The Devil's Playground" (Phaidon, 2003), has been offered for sale at Sotheby's New York in 2002 and 2004, and has previously been exhibited in Houston, London, Madrid, New York, Portugal, Warsaw and Zurich without any objections of which we are aware.

Elton John is known as one of the world's foremost collectors of photographic art and has several thousand photographs in his collection, including works by Man Ray, Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, Diane Arbus and Ansel Adams.

Elton John bought the "Thanksgiving" installation from the White Cube gallery in London, says the post.

It's currently on loan to The Baltic Centre For Contemporary Art in Newcastle.

An Elton John spokesman said the photograph had been shown around the world without objections, says the BBC, adding:

"Northumbria Police were alerted by Baltic managers the day before five collections were due to be unveiled." "It will be more of a BritRock night," A.J. Cole says of his gig this Saturday at the Devil's Harp.

That means lots of Coldplay, U2, Oasis, Travis, The Beatles, Eric Clapton, etc., plus material off his own, just-completed debut disc.

"(My show is) not the norm," he says. "I don't cover their (big hits). (But) it's amazing how many people listen and (know the songs)."

This congenial singer/guitarist has bounced back and forth six times between Toronto (his birthplace) and England (where his dad went to school with Sir Paul McCartney).

"I came back to Canada to buy a house, build a studio and record the album," Cole says.

His promising originals combine some Beatlesque melodies with Coldplay/Radiohead atmospherics. Another big influence is American hard rock guitar virtuoso, Steve Vai.

"The theory is there (in my music)," he comments. "They're pop songs, but they're terribly intricate."

Cole has just inked an endorsement deal with Gibson guitars. He cites 70,000 hits on his website, friendships with stars such as McCartney and Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson, and all kinds of label interest.

"I went to the Toronto International Film Festival and a lot of people wanted to sign me," he says from his Oakville home.

Although his last show in England came before 17,000 people, Cole welcomes being back in the pubs, with their sense of immediacy.

"I was stuck in the studio for so long," he says. "I missed it, really."
