After a season-opening win in Hawaii, Scripps Ranch dropped three straight games before hosting University City for homecoming last night.
There was some consolation in the fact the Falcons had been defeated by highly ranked Poway and Centennial before a narrow defeat last week at Lincoln. Still, Scripps Ranch longed to get back on the right track and last night was the perfect opportunity.

Building a 25-point lead at halftime, the Falcons cruised to a 56-22 win over the Centurions.

"We knew that those last three games were going to be the toughest part of our schedule and we were hoping they would get us ready for (Eastern League play)," Scripps Ranch coach Sergio Diaz said. "I think this game, and the homecoming atmosphere, gave us a chance to recover."

With junior quarterback Robert Forcier enjoying plenty of pocket protection for Scripps Ranch (3-2), senior wide receiver Andrew Burke and senior tight end A.J. May caught first-quarter touchdown passes for a 14-0 lead.

University City (2-3) answered with a 24-yard touchdown pass from Skyler Dougherty to Marcus Gibson to trail by a TD, but the Centurions wouldn't get any closer.

"Our offensive line played just about perfect," Forcier said. "That was our game plan all week � create mismatches and give me time to throw the ball. We were successful with it. We got the ball to our playmakers and they made plays."

Kamran Bagbeh, the Falcons' top running back, scored on TD runs of 3 and 21 yards in the second quarter. Bagbeh put an exclamation mark on the win with 6:33 left, scoring Scripps Ranch's final TD from 24 yards out.

MADISON 41, SANTANA 34: Robbie Rouse, a 5-foot-6, 145-pound junior, rushed for 342 yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries for Madison (3-2). Rouse's performance is the 10th best in San Diego Section history. Madison's David Lamar returned an interception 40 yards for a score.

KEARNY 32, MORSE 0: Kearny (3-2) broke open a close game with 26 points in the second half. Fealt Cooper led the Komets with 162 yards rushing on 19 carries.

PATRICK HENRY 35, CRAWFORD 0: C.J. Doughty returned a fumble 33 yards for a touchdown for Patrick Henry (4-1), which led 35-0 at halftime. The Patriots are off to their best start since a 7-0 beginning in 1999.

CORONADO 40, EC SOUTHWEST 0: Ricardo Oberwager got Coronado (3-2) going by returning the opening kickoff 90 yards for a TD. Keith Englehart returned an interception 31 yards for a score for the Islanders.

MISSION BAY 28, LINCOLN 21: Quarterback Evan Taylor scored three touchdowns for Mission Bay (4-2, 1-1 Western).

CARLSBAD 8, LA COSTA CANYON 7: No. 1 Carlsbad (5-0) stretched its unbeaten streak to 25 games with a tight win over No. 10 La Costa Canyon (2-3). After being shut out in the first half, the Lancers got two Jose Hernandez field goals and a safety when LCC snapped the ball over punter Bobby Zalud's head and through the end zone.

The mayor's office is now recommending evacuations of everything north of I-56 and some areas south of 56 in eastern Poway. With multiple fires across the county, resource-strain necessitates an increased reliance upon media outlets who will get the most recent emergency alerts (KOGO 600 AM Radio and KUSI Channel 9 have continued "live" throughout the eve).
Everyone in SR should be packed and "ready to go" if notified, as fires are approaching "close enough range" that an 80mph gust could send it toward us from either the north or eastern sides of SR, unlike the 2003 Cedar Fire that came solely from the east. For those that were here in 2003, you'll recall how traffic mushrooms fairly rapidly after formal evacuation notifications are made, with the best prepared households being the ones able to exit in the most orderly fashion.

The governmental direction for anyone coming out of Scripps Ranch this AM continues to be "head west and then south", so please take this into consideration when deciding on your post-evacuation destination.

Scripps Ranch was originally a 400 acre (1.6 km2) ranch owned by newspaper publisher E.W. Scripps.

In October 2003, a section of south Scripps Ranch was devastated by the Cedar Fire, destroying over 300 homes.

Scripps Ranch, California, is an inland community within the City of San Diego. It is located east of Interstate 15, North of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, and South of Poway, CA.

According to the San Diego County Assessor's Office's 2006 estimates[1], there were 32,476 people residing in the neighborhood, an increase of 15.9% from 2000. The racial makeup of the neighborhood was 71% White, 15% Asian & Pacific Islander, 7.8% Hispanic, 3.7% from other races, 2.4% African American, and .01% American Indian.

The neighborhood is diverse in age with 28% under 18 and 7.3% over 65. The median age was 38.6. There were 2.78 persons per household. The median household income was $117,758; 44.5% of the 11,593 households made $100,000 or more and 8% made $29,999 or less.

Same-sex households make up a marginal proportion of the community, with self-reported lesbian couples comprising 0.2% of households and gay male couples comprising 0.4% of households. [2]

SAN DIEGO -- San Diego officials ordered thousands of residents living around the Miramar Reservoir to evacuate Monday afternoon.

Everyone living in the area bounded by MCAS Miramar on the south, Scripps Poway Parkway on the north, Interstate 15 on the east and Highway 67 on the west has been told to pack their cars and leave, according to Monica Munoz of the San Diego Police Department.
Parents of San Diego Unified School District children may pick up their children any time they wish today, officials announced at 11 a.m. Schools are reporting high absenteeism, including 25 teachers at Scripps Ranch High School who could not make it to campus due to the fires. District officials are also working to identify a few child development programs to be open tomorrow, to serve as child care centers with food and supervision.

Children at Sweetwater Union High School District may be picked up by their parents immediately. Schools will stay open throughout the day and buses will run on their regular schedule. The district will update information on its Web site, www.sweetwaterschools.org, or call a special hotline the district will set up after noontime to provide information in English and in Spanish at 619-585-7985.


In Chula Vista, parents may start picking up there children at all 44 campuses of the elementary school district starting at noon today, according to Superintendent Lowell Billings. Students do not have to leave at noon if they cannot get a ride home, Billings said.


All San Diego County public K-12 schools will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, Oct. 23, according to the San Diego County Office of Education. All schools run by the Catholic Diocese of San Diego will also be closed.

The Miramar Ranch North and Scripps Miramar Ranch neighborhoods are in the area.

Also Monday afternoon, officials ordered a partial evacuation of Fallbrook. Residents living north of Highway 76 and west of I-15 were told to leave the area through the Camp Pendleton gate on Ammunition Road.

In Chula Vista, voluntary evacuations were suggested in the neighborhoods of Rolling Hills Ranch, Bella Lago, The Woods at East Lake and San Miguel Ranch.

Other areas evacuated Monday afternoon include:
Two thirds of the city of Poway has been evacuated
Rancho Sante Fe
Portions of Leucadia
Olivenhain Dam area
Lakeside at 13100 Willow Road
Hallyeyaaw Lane in Santa Ysabel

Residents should call 211 for all non-emergency calls related to the fires. Due to large call volume, residents are also urged to find fire information online at www.211SanDiego.org.
